This began in 1936 with a trophy presented by Arthur Newsome.  In 1961 another trophy was presented by Clifford Newsome (his son). One trophy is now the Open Trophy and the other is now the Veterans Trophy (formerly over 50s, now over 55s). East Bierley GC have once again agreed to host the event. It would be considered a Society event and green fees of £9 (2010) pp would be payable by non-members. Thus the entry fee has been fixed at £15 (£6 for EBGC members). This would include green fees, costs of engraving trophies, provision and engraving of plaques to keep for winners and runners up in both categories ... and an informal pie and pea supper! Surplus monies will be paid into Batelian funds, any deficit will be underwritten by the Batelians Association. The format will be an 18 hole stableford competition. Declared handicaps will be accepted (Batelians being trustworthy people), but bring along handicap certificates if they are available. An agreed handicap (based on past history) will be fixed for those with no current club.
