At the end of Key Stage 4 (years 10 and 11) pupils normally sit GCSE exams in ten subjects. There are six compulsory core subjects: Mathematics, English Language, English Literature, a Modern Foreign Language, a Humanities subject (either Geography or History) and Science (either double or triple award).
Pupils then choose from a list of additional subjects to make the total of ten GCSE subjects.
Pupils also take two core non-examined subjects: Physical Education and PSHE (Personal, Social, Health Education)
Post 16 Curriculum
The Sixth Form is developing and expanding and is a vibrant, flexible and high-achieving educational environment within which to study.
Our wide range of extra-curricular experiences blend together to equip students to become sophisticated learners and mature and positive citizens. This applies equally to those who are already students at a school and those who are among the significant number that join us from other schools for their Sixth Form education.
The post-16 curriculum is exclusively A level based, but as part of our monitoring and review procedures the school expects to expand its provision and be able to offer different curriculum pathways in due course.
Typically, Year 12 students follow a full A level programme comprising four AS subjects, three of which are carried through to A2. Some students may continue with four subjects at A2. All year 12 students also follow a Careers Progression Module and there is a Wednesday afternoon Enrichment programme for both AS and A2 students. Some students opt to take General Studies exams as AS and A2.
