Batley Grammar School is a small and happy community. There are less than 300 pupils in the Senior School. We seek to foster mutual care and respect, and this is genuinely possible in a school where size means everyone is well-known: no-one fades into the background here. Central to the care of each pupil is the form tutor, who has responsibility for groups of 20 or less.

Parents are encouraged to keep in contact with the tutor. Heads of Year lead the tutor teams and deal with progress monitoring and broader issues as they arise. The Deputy Head has overall responsibility for the welfare of the pupils.

Communication between school and home is important, and the student planner is an excellent way to keep the lines open. Staff and parents are encouraged to write short notes in the planner so as to keep each other well informed. Pupils are encouraged to use the planner constantly to keep their busy lives organised.

A most important part of this link between school and home are the Parents’ Evenings, which take place in the Autumn and Spring terms. Parents are also kept informed of pupil progress in formal reports, twice a year, and a formal pupil monitoring process, also twice a year.

Our door is always open for parents and pupils.
