Thursday 31 January – Batley Hall Retirement Home
On one of the coldest days that we have seen so far this winter, twenty-two students ranging from Year 7 to Year 11 made their way to Batley Hall Retirement Home to warm the hearts of the residents. Collectively the students are known as ‘BGS Voices’, which is the school’s principal choir. They sang a range of pieces from different styles and provided first class entertainment for fourty-five minutes. Notable performances were Christina Perri’s ‘Jar of Hearts’, as well as superb solos from Logan Wilby and Molly Lawford. They received a positive and emotional response from the residents, with one lady saying, “it reminded me of when I used to sing in choir at school many years ago”.
Since starting rehearsals in Easter 2017, BGS Voices have gradually been developing their repertoire under the guidance of Mrs Frith from Musica Kirklees and Mr Kirsfelds from Batley Grammar School. They have their next public performance at the Batley Big Sing which will be held in the Graves Hall on Wednesday 27 March. More information to follow.
