Key Dates Timeline Year 7

Timeline of key dates for Year 7

19/20 Year 7 Intake

  • September 03 (8.50 – 12.30) – Induction Morning

In September, we have a staggered first day arrival system where by new Year 7s will have time in the school building by themselves to make the first day a lot less daunting. This morning provides them with the perfect opportunity to further familiarise themselves with the school building and processes, select their lockers and receive their student planner. Students will be engaged in a range of team building activities with their form and take their form tutor on a tour of the school to increase their confidence of the school building.

  • October 09 (17:00 – 20:00) – Year 7 Welcome Evening

Throughout September and into October, learning support staff work closely with new Year 7 classes to monitor and provide support to any pupils that are finding the transition difficult Form tutors play a vital role in our relationship with you and your child.  We would therefore like to welcome all new parents into school on this evening to allow you to meet with your child’s form tutor and discuss the transition so far.

20/21 Year 7 Intake

  • November 23 – New Year 7 Intake Assessment Day

All children applying to Batley Grammar School will take a fair banding assessment to ensure a comprehensive intake. This is NOT a selective entrance test. It is a Non Verbal Reasoning Assessment which is administered at school, and is then dispatched to Granada Learning (GL) who mark and band all the applicants to ensure a comprehensive intake.

  • May/June – Transition visit to feeder schools

During these months, staff from our pastoral team visit Year 6 class leaders. This allows us to build on existing strong links with our feeder schools and gain key information that will enable us to provide appropriate and tailored support to the students joining us. We begin to gather a clear picture of pupils’ strengths, potential barriers, aptitudes, interests and so on. During these visits, Year 6 students will also have the opportunity to meet our staff and ask any questions that they may have about their upcoming transition to our school.

In February, transition staff - including learning support assistants, and special educational needs staff - visit Year 6 teachers to gather information about each pupil and to discuss individuals who will require additional support.

  • June (exact date tbc) – Parents Transition Information Evening

The New Parents Information Evening is a formal evening designed to provide parents/carers with essential information about the transition process, our school ethos and the next steps on this exciting journey. During the evening, all parents/carers will receive a copy of the New Parent Handbook. This document contains all necessary information to support your child throughout their transition to our school. The focus on this evening is how we will work together to best to support your child as they join us at Batley Grammar.

  • June 30 – Transition Day

Year 6 students attend school from 8.45am-2.30pm. New students get the opportunity to meet their head of year, form tutors and new tutor group classmates. They will also be given important information about our school and take part in a range of taster lessons. They will meet their Tutor Group and sample taster lessons in a range of subjects. Students should wear comfortable clothing and trainers and should bring with them a pen. At the end of the day students will also be provided with a ‘Passport to Year 7’ to complete over the summer. This portfolio of work enables us to support your child further as they join our school and should be given to the form tutor during the induction morning in September
