At Batley Grammar School we are proud of the curriculum we offer in the Secondary Phase.  It is broad and balanced, yet provides differing pathways for students depending upon their individual needs.

As part of our school philosophy and educational aims, we state that "...we are committed to enabling pupils to thrive and pursue excellence..." and that we aim "to encourage the highest achievement levels of which pupils are capable and, in so doing, to promote a love of learning."

We strive to achieve this by offering a broad and balanced curriculum, embracing teaching and learning strategies which reach all pupils.

Our secondary curriculum meets the needs of our students and community. It exposes students to a broad range of subjects and learning opportunities to deepen their educational experience and build a solid foundation of subject knowledge and skills.

Throughout their education, we aim to engage our students in the importance and uniqueness of every subject whilst emphasising the relationships and links between subjects.

As a core curriculum, all students study English, Mathematics and Science across five years. In addition there is an allocation of Physical Education as well as Religious Education and PSCHE (including RSHE) also studied across the five years of secondary education.

Humanities subjects, the Arts and Design (Art, Drama, Music and Food Preparation and Nutrition), Computer Technology and Computer Science and Modern Foreign Languages can be studies across five years.

Broadening the curriculum at KS4 provides both academic and technical subject pathways including the opportunity to explore new subjects such as Business Studies, Health and Social Care and Health and Fitness.

The delivery of wider skills and experiences is integrated into subject SoW, Communication for Learning (CfL) and the Enrichment and Extra Curricular programme offered to students. Wider skills include Literacy & Numeracy, Careers and Guidance, personal character development through bespoke Character Education lessons and LORIC.
